Meet Our Dogs

ADOPTED 9/6/2019
In 2018, I was found in the middle of a highway in Louisiana with my pack-mate. A nice older woman named Sheri got us into her car and took us to the doctor. The doctor said he thought I was about a year old, and my friend was about 5 or 6. We were so hungry. The doctor cleaned us up and tried to find our family, but we didn’t have tags or a chip, so Sheri took us home. Sheri and Bill had 3 other dogs – Little Bear, Skipper, and Bacchus. They named us Jack and Jill. After several months, my name didn’t suit me, so then they called me Lady.
Life was good with Sheri and Bill…there was plenty of food and water, and toys to play with. We had a new pack and a new yard to explore. But Little Bear and I just didn’t get along. Sheri and Bill decided they would need to find me a new home, but they couldn’t find a rescue or a person to take me. Knowing that I would be leaving, they separated me from the other dogs so we wouldn’t get too attached. One day, guests came to visit. These new people paid so much attention to me! They were called Michael and Kelley. They came when I cried and kept me company. They bought me a new leash and toys, and they even threw the ball for me to fetch every day. But the best part was all the attention. They petted me and brushed me and brought me with them at night for bedtime. I was so excited I didn’t know what to do and couldn’t settle down until they brought my crate into their room. After several days of this new routine, there was a shift…more activity and I could tell Michael and Kelley were leaving. I was so sad… But then Sheri and Bill came to me and told me to be a good girl and that they loved me, but that I was going to have a new home…with Michael and Kelley! They put me in the back seat of the truck, and we left.
Michael and Kelley told me that we’re a family now and that they’re my Momma and Dada…and I’m their fur-baby. They said we were going on a “Road Trip.” I didn’t care as long as I was with them. Being around Michael…I mean Dada…makes me feel so safe and protected! We were in the truck all day, and then we stopped at a “Hotel.” There were so many things to sniff! I could smell so many other people and animals and it just about drove me crazy! We got to our room, but Momma had to go back out and I escaped out the door. I ran all over the bottom floor, following my nose, until Momma got the leash back on me and brought me back to the room. I was unsettled but eventually fell asleep. We got back in the truck and drove all day again, and this time we were home. I could smell another dog. Dada and Momma told me that was Suki…my “sister”.…who had gone over the Rainbow Bridge in January. They told me I should talk to her spirit so she could help me understand my new home and that I was safe and loved. When they talked about her I could tell how much they loved and missed her, and I thought she was so lucky for the life she had with them.
Dada and Momma said I needed a new name…that Lady didn’t suit me. They spent hours thinking about and trying out different names before they decided on Kassidi. It means “smart, clever girl” and fits my personality, but they call me Kassi for short. Dada and Momma take me everywhere with them. I get super anxious if I can’t see Dada. I can’t help myself…I’ll bark and whine until I can see him again. I’m starting to find my place in this new life, but I’m nervous a lot. I really like other people and dogs…but I don’t always know what to do. I want to be a good girl, I’m just not always sure what that means. I love to be outside, sniffing every blade of grass. If I see a lizard, I try to catch it. I want to chase cats. Well, I like to chase lots of things. Especially the ball. Dada can throw the ball far away so I have to run as fast as I can to fetch it. I love it when Momma brushes me…every time we come home, I go right to her chair, so she knows it’s time for brushing. I don’t want her to forget so I’m careful to remind her every day. My favorite place is the bedroom…it’s cool and dark and has a huge comfy bed. My favorite thing to do is anything with Dada. Did I mention he makes me feel safe? I like toys that squeak. I like to sit on the couch and look out the window. My parents tell me I’m a silly girl…and a good girl…and so smart. They say I’m very sweet…and I do love to give kisses. I’m excited about my new life, even though I still get anxious. My name is Kassi, and I’ve found my “fur-ever” home!
